Being a tradie is a tough gig – we know you know that– it’s just a fact. From getting up at the crack of dawn, to battling the elements of whatever Mother Nature decides to throw at you, from lifting immensely heavy loads to dealing with difficult contractors and clients – and this barely even scratches the surface!

Each day brings new challenges, so the last thing you want to be worrying about onsite is whether the quality of tools you use is good enough for you or not. When we talk about quality tools, we’re not just talking about what’s inside your toolbox. Below is a list of quality tools that we know every tradie needs:

Toolbox – To work to the best of your ability means having the best tools available to you. From hammers to drills, screwdrivers to pliers, saws to levels – it’s important that you don’t opt for the ‘cheaper’ option.

Steel Cap Boots – As you would have already discovered, you spend the vast majority of the day on your feet. Having a good quality pair of boots is a must-have for your job. In a lot of cases too, you will also be required to have steel cap boots to protect your toes in case you drop something heavy on them!

Radio or Bluetooth Speaker – We know how much you love listening to the sound of the jackhammer and other building site noises… not! Invest in a good quality radio or Bluetooth speaker to pump the tunes all day and keep everyone motivated. If you aren’t able to play music out loud onsite, investing in a pair of wireless headphones may do wonders.

PPE – Your safety should be the number one priority on your worksite, and you should have access to the best possible PPE that you can, to protect yourself from any potential dangers that you may face. These items include helmets, earmuffs, gloves, eye goggles, asbestos suits and any other job-specific harnesses or equipment. These are the best quality tools that you could possibly have to save yourself and your colleagues from harm.

Sunnies and Sun Protection – When you’re not wearing protective goggles, a good quality pair of sunglasses (along with a hat) will protect your eyes and face from the harsh sunlight and UV rays you may exposed to. Don’t forget to slap on some sunscreen!

Fluids – We were going to just say coffee, but there are a few more fluids you need to get yourself through the day. A quality cup of joe in the morning is essential to wake you up on those early mornings where you have to drag yourself out of bed.

During the day, it is important to ensure you are drinking lots of water. We know that it can be easy to forget when you are in the middle of a project but keeping hydrated is important – especially in summer when you’re working under much harsher conditions – as it ensures that your body is performing to the best of its ability. If you aren’t a big fan of water (seriously though, how old are you?), try a drink that has electrolytes added so that your body is replenishing throughout the day.

Lastly, did someone say knock-off time? Knock-off calls for one thing – a good quality beer or beverage of choice to celebrate a long day of hard work.

Food – Speaking of fuelling your body, food is another quality tool to add to your list. Sure, fast food is probably the quickest, easiest and cheapest option to get you through your day, but too much junk food will do more damage to your body than good. Ensure you are filling up with nutritious options, meaning that it’s time to stop those daily meat pie runs!

Tape Measure – These handy little things are a quality tool to have with you at all times during your shift. Whether it be to measure building equipment or see who on your site can get it to stretch the furthest without bending, these are super important for every tradie to have.

Pencil – No doubt you’ll have hundreds of these lying around. Whether they’re the skinny original ones, or the wide, flat grey leads, these are great to have tucked behind your ear or in your pockets for marking materials or taking measurements.

A good Ute – One of the best quality tools that you can invest in – a quality Ute to hold everything! Whether it’s a top-of-the-range model with all the bells and whistles, or a trusty old model with a decent amount of tray space, these are any tradies best mate for carting around tools you need to complete any job.
